What should I do if my Google verification code shows an error?

Updated today

If your Google verification code isn't working, try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue and regain access to your account:

1. Sync your time settings

An out-of-sync clock is the most common cause of code errors.

  • For iPhone (iOS): Check your device settings to ensure your system time zone is correct and set to update automatically.

  • For Android:

    • 1. Open the Google Authenticator app.

    • 2. Tap the menu icon (three dots) and select Settings.

    • 3. Tap Time correction for codes, then select Sync now.

(Note: This only syncs the Authenticator app's internal clock and will not change your phone's main date and time settings).

2. Try a different browser or Incognito mode

If you are logging in on a computer, try using a different web browser or opening an Incognito window to bypass any browser-specific glitches.

3. Clear your browser cache

Clearing your browser's cache removes outdated data that might be interfering with the verification process.

4. Refresh and try again

After completing the steps above, reload the web page and try entering a newly generated code.

Still having trouble? If these steps do not resolve the issue, we recommend reaching out to Google Support for additional assistance with the Authenticator app.
