What Does “Authorized” Mean on My Transaction?

"Authorized" means the merchant has received your payment request, but the transaction hasn't been fully processed yet. The amount is temporarily held, so it may look like it's left your account, but it hasn’t fully posted.

Within 1 to 4 days, an authorized transaction will usually update to one of these:

  • Cleared: The payment is completed and the funds have settled with the merchant, typically within 1–2 days.

  • Refunded: The payment is reversed, either because it didn’t go through or you received a refund. The amount is returned to you, usually within 2–15 days from when the refund is processed.

In some cases, an authorization can take up to 30 days to either clear or be released, depending on the merchant’s policies.
