If a contactless payment doesn’t go through, it’s usually due to the card, the terminal, or limits on the transaction.
1. Check your card
Card damage: Look for visible wear or damage. If the card is damaged, request a replacement.
Card position: Hold your card flat, 2–3 cm directly over the contactless symbol. Moving or angling the card during the tap can cause a failed read.
2. Check the terminal
No contactless support: Not all terminals accept contactless. If you don’t see the contactless symbol, insert your card instead.
Weak or faulty reader: Some terminals have intermittent contactless issues. Try another terminal or insert your card.
Outdated software: Older terminal software may reject certain cards. Ask the merchant to process the payment another way (for example, chip and PIN).
3. Check limits and restrictions
Contactless limit reached: Many regions cap contactless payments at a certain amount. Above that limit, you’ll need to use chip and PIN.
Too many rapid taps: Several contactless payments in quick succession can trigger security checks. Wait a bit and try again, or use your PIN.
Merchant or region restrictions: Some industries or regions don’t support contactless. This is set by the merchant or local rules, not by your card.
Still not working?
Try inserting your card and entering your PIN.
Check that your card is active and in good standing in the RedotPay app.
