There are several common reasons why the authorized amount (i.e., the deducted amount) may be higher than the actual purchase amount:
Hotels and Car Rentals: These merchants often place a higher pre-authorization on your card to cover potential additional charges such as room service or fuel.
Restaurants: Some restaurants include an estimated tip amount in the authorization, making it appear higher than your actual bill.
Gas Stations: To ensure your account has sufficient funds, gas stations may pre-authorize a higher amount.
Ticketing Services: For flights or event tickets, a higher pre-authorization may be placed to account for possible price adjustments.
These pre-authorized amounts are usually adjusted to the actual spending after the transaction is finalized. If you notice a higher charge than your actual payment, please check with the merchant to confirm whether a refund has been issued. RedotPay will handle refunds as follows:
If the merchant has issued a refund: The refunded amount will be credited to your RedotPay account within 2–15 days of RedotPay receiving the refund.
If the merchant has not issued a refund: You may need to wait for the merchant to process it automatically, which typically takes 30–40 days. Once RedotPay receives the refund from the merchant, it will be credited back to your account.
